Help Our Friends Survive | Provide Water

Providing access to clean water sources is one of the most important actions you can take to ensure our wildlife neighbors survive throughout the year. It is vital in the winter, when natural sources freeze and finding liquid dwindles dramatically. In the warmer months...and especially when it seems the sun and humdity are out to get all of us... establishing and maintaining water containers provides them with drinking water, necessary for hydration and digestion. It also gives them a place to bathe (e.g.: keeping their feathers clean) and helps them maintain their body temperature.
Nothing fancy is needed. A shallow elevated dish for birds and/or large plant saucers or bowls placed on the ground will be welcome by all manner of animals. Birds and little mammals only need one and a half inches or so of water. If it's deeper than that, place rocks (or some other kind of exit ramp) in your dish to help small critters and thirsty insects crawl out if they fall in. A little birdie told us they also prefer textured bottoms vs slick materials...so if that's available...super!
Be sure the water is place in a protected area where the birds and animals won't feel exposed, and they have access to an escape route.
Do clean the container every few days. It's okay to top if off several days in a row, but to help prevent the growth of ewww that occurs when water is stagnant along with the spread of disease AND to ensure no mosquitoes turn it into a nursery, just give it a little scrub.
We thank you. The animals thank you <3.
